From the desk of Cathy Harvey, Administrative Assistant to Shepherds College
I
already know we are going into one of those
days and weeks. You know what I mean without any explanation. My
crazy days’ details might look different than yours, but the result is the
same: a feeling of stress and unfinished business with deadlines
looming. For me, it’s been I-don’t-know-how-many emails trying to
coordinate holiday plans with almost 50 families. If you think about what
it takes to pack up your family for a big vacation—and add about 45 more people
to that roster, you’ll get the idea! It’s finals week, report card prep
time, crazy excited student behaviors; it’s a week of packing lists, passports
and IDs, baggage limits, flight arrangements and escort notes for 3 airports, 1
train station, and 1 bus depot; drivers, security pass letters, double checking
vehicle reservations to get the students to the right place at the right time,
meds, money, meals and so on. This does not include Christmas
preparations at home and nightly dress rehearsals for the church play.
I
am not complaining. It’s a fun challenge, and I hold dear the blessings
of having a good job from God and serving our students and families.
Whenever things get crazy around here (like every Monday!) I remember what Dean
Houk said in a faculty/staff training session in August right before the
semester started.
Keeping
in mind that we were approaching a student body near 50 with about 120
disabilities combined, she leant us this bit of wisdom, “When things get crazy,
as they no doubt will, remember Winston Churchill’s words to the English during
WWII, “remain calm—and carry on…”
Thanks,
Dean Houk, I needed that.
Therefore, I am signing off calmly as I carry on—for His
glory!
