The Office: An Important Announcement!

We’ve been eagerly waiting since 2007 to make this announcement!

I wish I knew how to spell the sound of a drum roll…

Just imagine a drum roll right about now… a long one.  Keep it going through the next six paragraphs please…

Years ago, Shepherds had a vision. We wanted to provide an opportunity for young people with intellectual disabilities to go to college. But it couldn’t be a typical college – our school would need to be a place where the students could learn at a pace they could handle. The staff and faculty would have to be uniquely gifted with warmth and patience and expertise in the field of disability. Our program would need to include life skills training, job training, specialty majors, spiritual formation and a residential component to support all the students learned in their classes. This specific model hadn’t been done before. Could we do it?

We believe that with God all things are possible, and, in great faith, we moved forward.

In 2007, Shepherds started a major campaign, The Turning Point Campaign, to build Shepherds College. We divided the campaign into two phases – a short-term phase with the goal of raising $15 million in five years, and a long-term phase with the goal of raising another $10 million by the end of 2018.

The first phase would provide the funds to launch Shepherds College. These funds would be used for program development, facility renovation, new construction and additional qualified faculty and staff.

The second phase would grow Financial Reserve and Endowment Funds to ensure future financial stability. These funds would be used for ongoing support and student scholarships.

During the Board meetings this week, the campaign committee was very excited to make the following announcement:

We’ve successfully completed the short-term phase of the campaign!!

Thank you to all of our friends who supported the campaign through prayer and donations! You acted in faith, you built a one-of-a-kind college, and now you’re enriching the lives of young people with intellectual disabilities throughout the country. What a legacy!

Let’s keep going! Let’s keep building dreams together. Your prayers, donations and planned gifts during the long-term phase of the campaign will allow generations of students with intellectual disabilities to broaden their education, gain skills that will help them earn satisfying jobs, and ultimately realize their hopes of living a life of Appropriate Independence.

Please contact us if you have questions about how to partner with Shepherds over the next five years of this important campaign. We’ve also made it convenient for you to make monetary donations or learn about planned giving opportunities on our ministry website.

  1. Praise God for the many blessings he has showered on Shepherds College and Shepherds Ministries. Blessings which allow them to bless others. This just shows that despite the economic difficulties since 2007, nothing is impossible for God.
